For a long time I let my mjengo work dictate my style. Yes, there are still things I can not wear to work, but that does not mean I can not invest in them for my off/leave days. Before this realization, I used to buy outfits with work mentality.
"Oh, where I'm I gonna wear this?"
"Can that be worn to work?"
"My work does not allow such?"
The end result; a wardrobe full of jeans and tees. Continue Reading
I never experienced gender bias (or rather felt it) until I was employed. Growing up, my father treated us as equal. There was no girl/boy role in his house. Things had to be done and everyone had to be involved, no one was getting hand outs in his house. Period. That's what you get when your dad is military. We soldiered on, and became very independent at a very young age (you can call it hard core if you want). This hard core spirit is probably the reason why my husband gives me a fist bump and calls me "mtu nguyaz" sometimes. Anyway we soldier on. Continue Reading
It is no secret that a black top goes well with anything and everything, a turtleneck is no difference. Also known as the "polo neck" in the UK this versatile piece can be worn in so many ways, especially for those days when you find yourself with "nothing" to wear. Though branded boring sometimes, a turtleneck is the easiest way to make a simple outfit look more put together and creative. Continue Reading
I love me a good Kimono. Ever since I got this one from Ambura Nairobi I wear it with everything; from my swimming costume (which probably think I died) to my dresses, skinny jeans and baggy jeans. Kimonos are perfect to wear any day, and the way they flutter through the breeze, oh so damn pretty! Continue Reading
Denim on denim - matching of different denim pieces to make one outfit. It is also popularly known as double denim. It is a style that never goes out of season, but if it does never stays away for long. I love it because it serves as a great way to look stylish and put together as well as laid back for those casual weekends and occasions. If you do not have some denim pieces in your wardrobe, I do not know what you are doing with your life. Continue Reading
W hen we think of sunshine, we simply think of warmth, light, joy or even comfort. There are people in our lives who bring all this to us and just plant a smile on our faces. But in this pandemic, it has been hard for everyone to feel the sunshine. Some have lost their jobs, others do not know if they are still employed (I fall under this category) while others are barely surviving. Continue Reading
Easter is a joyous holiday marked by a season of hope and renewal. It is a time to gather and reconnect with family members and just rejoice. Unfortunately this year we might not be able to meet up with family and friends to rejoice in this hopeful moments. This is not a reason to not indulge in our traditions though, make use of what you have wherever you are. Continue Reading
Diani beach is one of the top tourist destinations on the Kenyan coastline. It's white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters is a sight to behold. Can we just say therapeutic too ;) This is why we chose to end our vacation here. We were in need of a place to relax after all the adventure, drama, history, beauty and adrenaline in Europe for the previous three weeks. We were tired AF and Diani offered just the ambiance for relaxation. Continue Reading
Guten Morgen peeps! Now that we are all (some of us) at home, I am taking this time to revive my passion and learn new things. As such allow me to take it up from where we stopped.Germany was our first and last stop. There was so much to do, family, friends, shopping and adrenaline activities. I think it is safe to say we saved the best for last! We had one goal in mind; get our adrenaline levels as high as humanly possible! Continue Reading
