I had such a great weekend my blues are spilling over to today. It started when I got an invite or better still my friends teased me to join in on a beach (work) getaway. By now you should know my adventurous self does not need second guessing when it comes to travel, nature and adventure. I hopped into a bus and caught up with them in Mombasa. Why? you may ask. My friends were traversing through Tsavo and I could not be part of it. Well, someone has to do the 8-5, right? We did self driving for the rest of the trip and back. Destination: Watamu!!
My first time in Watamu, and I had the pleasure of staying at one of the luxurious beach hotels in North Coast; Medina Palms. The architecture was first to take my breath away then the climate. I am not sure climate is the right word to use here because coast is generally hot and humid. Medina Palms has invested in planting trees all around the hotel which in return retains the cool breeze from the ocean. They even have a riparian section close to the beach! being a sucker for nature and conservation, you know what that means to me!
Accommodation at Medina Palms is not your usual kind of rooms. They have spacious swahili style ocean residences, that allows free flow of air in and out. We stayed in a luxury three bedroom villa. Fully equipped with a kitchen, living area and two balcony’s. Well that is not all, there is a rooftop terrace with a large sitting area that allows you to have the best panoramic sea views, and a plunge pool!! What a welcome to Watamu! There are so many activities that you can undertake while staying here; ocean sports, snorkelling, deep sea fishing, visit to Mida Creek, Snake farm and other areas in Watamu. All these are still in my bucket list though since this was more of a work thing. And I was also so mesmerized by the pools (including plunge) that all I did was swim and swim more. Watch out for my swimming escapades and review of the menu in the next post. For now, I think you should be booking your Easter getaway. If you are planning to be on the beach and a sustainable destination, this is a great place. Since I will be working over the holiday, we can say that my Easter came early!!
