So I made a getaway to Samburu last weekend. One long drive but so so much worth it. As usual it was work related and our stay/assignment was at Saruni Samburu: a luxury lodge built on top of one of the many rocky hills in Kalama conservancy. This gives spectacular views from the top and allows some cool breeze through the hot Samburu air. We arrived quite late and booked into our villa. Due to the hot weather, the tents were left open with only a netting (more like a mosquito net) between the wild outside and us. I could clearly see any movements on the outside but i guess the wildlife had a better view due to the lights on our side. Perfect wild getaway. Continue Reading
Hallo Profashionals, How was your Easter? Mine was an amazing experience full of fun road trips and glorious moments with friends and family. For now, allow me to take you back one week prior when I had a weekend getaway at Amboseli. Hidden in the dry Kenyan South is a luxurious safari lodge, Tawi Lodge.
A lodge built with all its facilities facing the snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro; from the rooms to the dining area, to the bar and the swimming pool, the amazing view of the mountain lingers. Even the bathroom has a window facing the mountain! Waking up to the beautiful snowy view atop the mountain reminded me of my high school days at the foots of Mt. Kenya. Continue Reading
A little part of my life was spent at the coast while growing up, south coast to be precise. I was quite young so I mostly depend on photos and my sister's recollection of things to feed my memory. One thing I can not forget though is the swimming classes that dad gave us. I must admit I (we) never really looked forward to those moments; salty water in my tiny eyes and nostrils, not my cup of tea! It was more of a teary running nose affair. Continue Reading
I had such a great weekend my blues are spilling over to today. It started when I got an invite or better still my friends teased me to join in on a beach (work) getaway. By now you should know my adventurous self does not need second guessing when it comes to travel, nature and adventure. I hopped into a bus and caught up with them in Mombasa. Why? you may ask. My friends were traversing through Tsavo and I could not be part of it. Well, someone has to do the 8-5, right? We did self driving for the rest of the trip and back. Destination: Watamu!! Tucked away in the largest park in East Africa is a tented camp offering the perfect natural environment integration. It is not fenced thus you will see animals cross every once in a while. As usual my kinda place to be. Imagine this; you are relaxing at the pool and then a herd of zebras run past. What comes to your mind? Continue Reading
Imagine spending a night by the banks of River Mara. Having to see crocodiles and hippos everytime you peep through your tent window. And dining with thee animal as they put up a spectacular basking and splashing show. Thrilling right? You do not have to imagine further, you can have first hand experience at Olonana Sanctuary Mara, Continue Reading
The drive to the masai mara started at 11am. This was not the initial plan, but there are always unforeseen circumstances in almost everything we do, right? You ask why we chose to drive all the way? I like adventure and there is no better way to experience the stunning surrounding and wildlife in this fascinating part of Kenya. Continue Reading
