Happy new year to you all. How is 2018 taking you? Mine is good so far, I am already back to work (I never left any way) and the grind is slowly picking up. Word has it that I have added some flesh after those few days of stuffing myself with everything edible. Never mind that the weight has not changed 🙁 Let’s see what the new year has in store. Resolutions
Talking of which, how are those resolutions coming along? How long is your list? Are you the kind of person who just writes, carry’s forward and rephrases the same resolutions for several years? Before you write down those resolutions this year, take time to evaluate those that were in the past year. Did you achieve them? How far are you to achieving? What are the set backs? What will you do about it?
As I said in my previous post, I do not really write down my resolutions, I set my mind to achieve my set goals. Some I do, some I carry forward too. So before the year gets any older, allow me to write down a few things I set to achieve and did or did not in the past year.
- Finish my masters degree
This is one of the things I did not achieve. I can not begin to write down all the excuses, for not completing my thesis, I have lined up in my head. Some of which I think are valid, but still EXCUSES!!! I will definitely push myself harder this year. Watch this space for graduation party invites 🙂
- Started earning from the blog
I am proud of myself for this. When I started out, it was difficult to get outfits for my shoots. Most of the people I approached turned me down. Reason: I was unknown to them. I am not yet where I want to be, but I no longer have trouble sourcing for outfits. Even though the earnings are not as much, it is a step closer to my goal and I am happy about it. I plan to work my a** off this year to bring you more posts consistently, get more collaborations and kick start with some video content too. I have learnt that, blogging needs consistency. It is not a walk in the park as you see it. It takes a lot of work to bring you the finished glamorous product. This is not to discourage any one , rather I am encouraging you to exercise the virtue of patience because as they say it pays.
The past year has been good to me as I have toured the country extensively. I thank God for all of it. To mention a few, I have been to the Mara (severally), Tsavo, Amboseli, Samburu, Turkana, Watamu (for the first time) just to name a few. I especially love the Mara, anything bush and wild is good with me. The luxurious life offered at the bush, serenity, the views, the food. Enjoying nature is the only thing that can keep me off my phone for looooong. Nature to me is rejuvenating! I have met great people in my travels, made friends, discovered new places in our beautiful country and learnt new things. Hopefully, more travels await in 2018 both locally and internationally.
- Driving a manually operated car
The first time I drove to work unaccompanied, I have to confess, I was sweating profusely. The cold shiver I got did not leave my body all day. I thought of leaving the car at work and just give it another shot the following day. I gathered all the courage, but woe unto me, the first dent awaited. I must admit that even though women are the queens of multi tasking, this was one hell of a challenge; balancing the clutch and the breaks, the gears, still keeping my eyes on the road (and the mirrors) and the hands on the wheel wueeh 🙁 I finally did it. If you are up for a ride, holla at your girl 🙂
This post is already too long, so I will end it with the highlight of my year. I got engaged, yaaay! This is not an achievement per se but a growth in my personal life. I was super excited on that day. My friend and make up artist Ann had lied to me that we were pitching for a make up collaboration with L’Oreal. I brought my A game on so that she could land this deal of her life. As always, my boyfriend (we call him A, like that mysterious character in pretty little liars) accompanied me. They were all in it, the photographer, the hotel…all of them, and the little missy here had no clue! What if I said no? No problem the hotel had prepared a sorry cake for them! imagine that…Anyway, enjoy the photos as taken on that day. Let us just say that A likes to remain behind the scenes, so no photos of him today.
